Toxic Foods for Your Dog

Toxic Foods for Your Dog

If you are a responsible dog owner then you should consider that your dog may dislike certain food types and he might be vulnerable to developing some allergies from these toxic foods. The health and safety of your canine companion should be a priority for you. A dog will need to receive a daily dose of nutrients which will give him the necessary energy to play, keep the home safe from intruders and have a nice healthy life. Provide your dog with fresh water and healthy food on a daily basis and he will be able to do all these things without too much effort.

Your dog will require a decent place to rest because his sleep is as important as the sleep we all require. Next to these your dog will need a lot of attention and you will have to offer him a portion of your time daily to play with him and train him to be better. You should keep all toxic and chemical substances out of the reach of your pets because they don't know better and can't protect themselves from ingesting such chemical agents. Regular food may also pose a problem in the case of certain dogs or particular breeds so you need to stay informed to be on top of any potential dangerous situations.

Homemade food is a nice option if you are looking to provide your pet with some variety in his meals. This may also pose a health hazard to some dogs because the food may prove to be toxic for their bodies. Canned food or some commercial kibble may not be the adequate type of food to feed your life long companion. There have been numerous products which have been recalled from the market because they have posed serious health problems to pets thus worrying pet owners to death. Both cat and dog owners need to be aware of the dangers that the wrong food groups or brands pose to their animal friends. If they act without reason they may result in killing their pet or causing him some long term health issues which will complicate and seem never ending. We have compiled a list of foods that have caused problems for pets in the past. You may want to review it to make sure you are not causing any harm to your furry friend.

- Yeast dough Artificial sweeteners like Xylitol are a common encounter in products which have been wrongfully labeled to be "sugar free". Breath mints, bubble gum and some baked goods contain them.

They may also be encountered in candy or toothpaste. It is safe for a human to come in contact with this chemical but to a dog this substance has deadly effects. The chemical will make a dog's insulin levels to spike and in time will lead to liver failure and death.

There are a couple of symptoms to keep a lookout for and some of those are poor muscle coordination, lethargy, vomiting and seizures. If you so much suspect that your canine has ingested harmful chemicals which may be poisonous then you should contact your vet and the poison control center to receive immediate advice and you should act as fast as possible to save the life of your dog. Another substance which may cause your dog serious harm is milk. This product is on the black list because some dogs may present lactose intolerance. The dog will be affected by this sugar and a dog's body will be unable to produce the necessary amount of lactase to take apart the sugar thus affecting the dog. Digestive problems may occur as well as vomiting and diarrhea if the dogs are young pups.
